When I grow up

When I grow up

Today’s society makes many demands of us. For one thing, there may be pressure to conform to traditional, entrenched social expectations based on family, friends, educators, or employers. At the same time, these demands are also intensely and panderingly articulated by various trusted mentors and life coaches. We often face the frustration of failure as the idea of the desired success is passed on to us from almost all sides. We need to set high goals to push ourselves and grow in both our personal and professional lives and be a productive, contributing member of society.

I focus on the question of my own future as an art school graduate. I ponder career options and, with exaggeration, create my own unique professions that, while inspired by the real world, don’t really exist and are unlikely to have much of a use. The essence of these fabricated professions is deliberate meaninglessness and practical uselessness.
