The Memory of Wood

The Memory of Wood

A tree that has grown for decades transforms into a material that serves, is shaped, altered and eventually forgotten. I focus on the final stage of this process. I work with discarded wood from cultural institutions. The  wood that has fulfilled its purpose and now has no further use.

With a certain degree of exaggeration, I create a space where processed wood gains a voice. The place where it speaks to us in quiet sentences. Through the personification of wood, I attempt to capture its possible inner world.

But it’s not just about trees. The thoughts that emerge are similar to the ones we know ourselves. These fragments — full of loss, longing, or even absurd melancholy reflect our own inner monologues.
