You little fool

You little fool

I was inspired to create this series of paintings by Martin Vopenka’s book My Brother the Messiah. It led me to think about a new messiah, what miracles could he do for humanity? And should he perform these miracles to save humanity or the planet? With some exaggeration, I created several situations in which the new messiah performs his miracles. But his mission is to save the flora and fauna of the Earth. These are miracles, however, that almost any human being could perform with some skill and patience. These include planting a tree in an inhospitable and arid landscape, feeding all the starving animals, saving uprooted or otherwise destroyed trees, or finding the “holy grail” as a remnant of a previous civilization. The resulting images are thus based with exaggeration on already known miracles. Self-ironically, I appear in them as a new messiah, but this is only a self-expression as an author. In addition, small fragments that serve as a “record” of the time of the new messiah’s arrival are on display in the exhibition.

In the exhibition entitled You’re Crazy, I present paintings that are made from found pieces of wooden boards. I have painted and then sanded these boards several times, as is done when sanding old walls that hide the remains of previous owners and their memories. I then transferred the photographs and collages I had created onto the boards using the photo transfer technique. In the aforementioned paintings I always use myself in the same clothes. These elements serve to unify the individual paintings with some reference to the silent film era, in which, for example, Charlie Chaplin used an identical costume to express himself as an author while referring to social exclusion and social insecurity.
